This page provides information on how to access datasets used or produced by the Murdoch Atmospheric Science team. Most data that we use is housed on the Pawsey resource, data.pawsey.org.au. Please refer to our Pawsey page

BOM Station Locations

This .kmz file can be imported into Google Earth. It contains the official co-ordinates and ID numbers of all the BoM meteorological sites in Western Australia.

BOM Gridded Data

Daily gridded data at a 5 km resolution is available for temperature (minimum and maximum) and precipitation. This data is from the Bureau of Meteorology's contribution to the Australian Water Availability Project (AWAP), so you may hear of this data being called the AWAP data.

This data is available from data.pawsey.org.au in the following location:

The NC folder contains the data in an easy to use NetCDF format. Use the ppt folder rather than ppt-recal.

BOM Station Data

Data is available from the BOM network of weather stations across Western Australia. Hourly data is available for some stations. The length of the data record varies for each station and there may be data missing so please check this data thoroughly when using.

Folders separate the daily and hourly data and the NC directories designate the data in an easy to use NetCDF format.

AgWa Station Data

Data from the network of weather stations operated by the Department of Agriculture is available here:

ANUCLIM Gridded Data

ANUCLIM is a software package that enables users to obtain estimates, in point and grid form, of monthly, seasonal and annual mean climate variables from supplied climate surfaces. This data is high resolution (1 km). Jatin and Lolo have information on how to access this data.

GCM Model Data

General Circulation Model output is available for ECHAM5, ECHAM6, CSIRO Mk 3.5, CCSM and MIROC3.2 here:

The data is 6 hourly input fields to be used as lateral boundary conditions for WRF model runs.

Reanalysis Data

Reanalysis output is available for FNL, ERA-Interim and NNRP here:

The data is 6 hourly input fields intended as lateral boundary conditions for WRF model runs.

WRF Climate Output

WRF output from the SWWA regional climate runs is located on data.pawsey.org.au here:

The files for different climate runs are located in different directories. Following is a summary of the relevant climate simulations. All simulations are a 50:10:5km resolution unless otherwise specified.

  • CCSM-20C: 30 year simulation using WRF3.3 and CCSM LBCs (1970-1999)
  • CCSM-A2: 30 year simulation (A2 scenario) using WRF3.3 and CCSM LBCs (2030-2059)
  • CSIRO-20C: 30 year simulation using WRF3.3 and CSIRO LBCs (1970-1999)
  • CSIRO-A2: 30 year simulation (A2 scenario) using WRF3.3 and CSIRO LBCs (2030-2059)
  • ECHAM5-20C: 30 year simulation using WRF3.3 and ECHAM5 LBCs (1970-1999)
  • ECHAM5-A2: 30 year simulation (A2 scenario) using WRF3.3 and ECHAM5 LBCs (2030-2059)
  • MIROC-20C: 30 year simulation using WRF3.3 and MIROC LBCs (1970-1999)
  • MIROC-A2: 30 year simulation (A2 scenario) using WRF3.3 and MIROC LBCs (2030-2059)
  • ERA-INT-30Y: 30 year simulation using WRF3.3 and ERA-Int LBCs (1980-2010)
  • ERA-URBAN: 1 year simulation (50:10:2 km resolution) using WRF3.3 and ERA-Int LBCs (2000) using the urban canopy model

/Processed contains post-processed files generated from WRF output.
